In-Home ABA Therapy in Jacksonville, FL

Sessions in your Duval County home • Daycare and community too • 561-337-8865

For many Jacksonville families, the hardest moments happen at home: the morning rush, the dinner table, bath time, a sibling taking a toy. In-home ABA brings therapy to those moments. Hope Center for Behavior Change sends a Registered Behavior Technician to your home in Duval County, with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst planning and supervising every step, so your child practices skills in the place they use them most.

The short answer

In-home ABA therapy in Jacksonville is offered by Hope Center for Behavior Change to families across Duval County. A BCBA writes your child’s plan, an RBT holds sessions in your home, and parents get training every week. Sessions can also happen at daycare and in the community. Hope Center accepts TRICARE East and major commercial plans and has no waitlist.

What does an in-home ABA session look like?

A session follows your child, not a script. The RBT arrives at a set time, settles in with your child and works on goals your BCBA chose with you. For a younger child that may look like play on the living room floor, with requests, turn-taking and words built into the game. For an older child it may be practicing a morning routine, a calm way to ask for a break, or getting through homework time.

Our approach is trauma-informed and assent-based. Tasks are presented in a fun, non-forceful way, and if your child is upset the therapist helps them calm down first. We use the least intrusive strategies and we do not use restraint.

A parent, guardian, aide or another responsible adult 18 or older needs to be home for every session. You are welcome to watch, ask questions and try the strategies yourself.

Which goals work well at home?

Every plan is individual. Families in Duval County often ask us to work on:

  • CommunicationAsking for help, a snack or a break with words, signs, pictures or a device.
  • Daily routinesDressing, toothbrushing, toilet training and getting out the door.
  • MealtimesSitting with the family, trying new foods and finishing a meal.
  • Siblings and playSharing, waiting and playing alongside a brother or sister.
  • Big feelingsSafer, calmer ways to handle changes, noise and frustration.
  • Bedtime and transitionsMoving from screens to bath to bed with less struggle.

If a behavior at home is your main worry, our guide on getting in-home ABA help for behavior explains what to expect.

How does weekly parent training work?

Parent training happens every week. Your BCBA reviews goals and progress with you, shows you the strategies the RBT is using and helps you fit them into the routines you already have. You know your child far better than any therapist, and what you see between sessions shapes the plan.

Parent training and BCBA supervision can sometimes happen by telehealth, though we prefer in person. RBT sessions are always in person. You can call or text your RBT, your BCBA or our front desk with questions. Read more about parent and caregiver training.

Can sessions happen outside the home?

Yes. Home is where many plans start, but skills need to work in other places too. When it fits your child’s goals, our Jacksonville team can also hold sessions at daycare, at school and in the community, such as a store, a park or a restaurant. Daycare and school sessions need that program’s agreement first. See ABA at daycare and our school-based ABA in Jacksonville page.

Where allowed, staff can also come along to IEP meetings, doctor and dental visits and haircuts. If a storm closes local offices, families can choose home sessions with their RBT, and we send closure notices by mass message, call and text.

Questions families ask

Which parts of Jacksonville do you serve for in-home ABA?+

We serve families in Duval County, and our Jacksonville office is on Belfort Parkway. We do not currently serve Clay County, Orange Park or St. Johns County. If you live outside Duval, call 561-337-8865 to ask whether we can staff your area. See the Jacksonville hub for more.

Does someone need to be home during sessions?+

Yes. A parent, guardian, aide or another responsible adult 18 or older must be present for every in-home session. You are welcome to watch and take part, and weekly parent training helps you use the same strategies between sessions.

Can in-home ABA be in Spanish or Haitian Creole?+

Our team provides care in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Bengali and Russian. Several of our RBTs speak Haitian Creole. Tell us your family’s language when you call and we will work to match you.

Does my child need a diagnosis for in-home ABA?+

Insurance-funded ABA usually requires a diagnosis such as autism or Down syndrome, made by a qualified provider. BCBAs do not diagnose. Self-pay is available without a diagnosis. Our guide to an autism evaluation in Jacksonville explains where families start.

My child has Medicaid. Can we pay privately?+

No. We do not accept Medicaid, and our policy is that we cannot see a child with Medicaid as self-pay. If your family adds employer or marketplace insurance that we accept, we can check those benefits for you. UF Jacksonville CARD offers free support to families at (904) 633-0760.

My child is under 3. Should we also call Early Steps?+

It is worth it. Northeastern Early Steps serves Duval County children from birth to age 3, with no co-pays or deductibles for families, and uses caregiver coaching in daily routines. Call (904) 427-7600. Our early intervention ABA in Jacksonville page explains how the two can fit together.
